This morning we went up at 5 am to catch the first train to Tokyo. Around 6 am, right after meeting my friend Satoko, we arrived at the famous Tsukiji Fish Market, the biggest fish and seafood market in the world. Carefully we made our way through the many alleys inside the market, being careful not to disturb the fishermen and merchants working hard preparing fish and selecting the best ones for their shops and restaurants. The atmosphere was hectic. Seafood in all shapes, sizes and colors. People and small fish trucks making their way quickly around the many stands at every turn. The market is bigger than I could ever have imagined, and smelled of fresh fish in the cold early morning. We had breakfast in the outer parts of the market, fresh sashimi and barbequed Unagi, Japanese freshwater eel.
